St. Paul’s Primary School is located in the town of East Calder. The school’s catchment area serves the villages of East Calder, Mid Calder, Pumpherston and Kirknewton.
St. Paul’s Primary is a Roman Catholic co-educational school. As a denominational primary school, Christian principles and Gospel values underpin the school’s ethos. The school has strong links with Parish of St. Theresa’s and they foster partnerships across the wider faith community.
The widespread catchment is reflected in the diversity of our school community.
The school’s Catholic, Christian ethos promotes a safe, happy and inclusive learning environment for all. As a school they are commitment to effective partnership working, self-evaluation and wellbeing enables them to form effective, supportive links with pupils and families.
The school are highly committed to ensuring that learning provision is of the highest quality, with high aspirations for all. The school have developed strong working partnerships with the cluster high school, St. Margaret’s Academy and linked cluster primaries.
In session 2024/25, St. Paul’s had a nursery class and 7 single stream primary classes. Across the school session the school roll increased to just over 150 pupils. The school leadership team consists of the Head Teacher and a Principal Teacher.
The school currently have 10 class teachers across 7 class stages and have 2 full-time and 3 part-time Pupil Support Workers. The school also has a part-time support for learning teacher, a visiting Brass specialist and a P.E. Specialist on a Friday.
The ELC provision is led by the Early Years Officer and managed by an Early Learning and Childcare Support Manager. Our ELC team consists of 5 ELC practitioners and 2 Pupil Support Worker. Our ELC provision is provides Early Learning and Childcare across 50 weeks of the year.
The successful candidate will join a highly committed school team and wider school community who work together to raise attainment and further develop our curriculum, as well as approaches to effective learning, teaching and assessment. They will have the opportunity to be creative and imaginative in their approach to pedagogy, leadership and management.
Working in close partnership with the Headteacher and all pupils, parents, staff and partners, the successful candidate will contribute to strategic planning and the effective leadership and management of the school, fostering a climate that promotes equity and excellence.

West Lothian Council is committed to a policy of staff development. Staff will be expected to participate in training and learning events as appropriate to their professional needs and as provided and agreed by the Director of Education.

This post is considered Regulated Work with Vulnerable Children and/or Protected Adults, under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2007. Successful candidates will be required to join the Scheme or undergo a PVG Scheme Update check prior to commencing employment and the cost will be met by the candidate.
