Job Description: We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Workshop Manager to oversee the daily operations of our busy workshop at the Cullompton depot. This site includes multiple workshop bays and a DVSA Authorised Testing Facility (ATF) lane operating five days a week. You will play a key role in ensuring the smooth, safe, and compliant running of all workshop activities, supporting the maintenance and servicing of our Group Fleet vehicles, including HGVs, vans, and trailers.

Key Responsibilities:

Workshop Operations & Planning:

  • Manage daily workshop scheduling, including MOT bookings, servicing, and repairs across the Group Fleet.
  • Oversee the operation of the DVSA ATF lane, ensuring the operation is efficient and compliance.
  • Allocate work to technicians and monitor progress to ensure timely and high-quality completion.

Health & Safety Compliance:

  • Champion a culture of safety by enforcing health and safety policies and procedures.
  • Conduct regular checks and audits to ensure a safe working environment for all staff.

Quality Control & Process Management:

  • Monitor and maintain high standards of workmanship and service delivery.
  • Implement and manage quality control processes to ensure all work meets regulatory and company standards.

Stock & Resource Management:

  • Manage workshop stock levels, including ordering and maintaining impress stock.
  • Ensure technicians have the tools and parts required to perform their duties efficiently.

Fleet Compliance & Documentation:

  • Work closely with the compliance team to ensure all vehicles meet legal and industry standards.
  • Ensure accurate and timely completion of service records, inspection sheets, and compliance documentation.

Budget Oversight:

  • Collaborate with the Fleet department to manage workshop budgets and control costs.
  • Monitor spending and identify opportunities for cost savings without compromising service quality.

Team Collaboration & Environment:

  • Foster strong working relationships across departments to support operational efficiency.
  • Continuously seek ways to improve the workshop environment and team morale.

Required Experience:

Qualifications & Experience

  • Level 3 qualification in Heavy Vehicle Maintenance and Repair (or equivalent).
  • Previous supervisory or team leadership experience in a workshop environment is essential.
  • Experience managing HGV, van, and trailer maintenance operations.
  • DVSA ATF lane experience is highly desirable.

Skills & Attributes

  • Strong organisational and planning skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Excellent problem-solving abilities and a proactive approach to challenges.
  • Able to manage and motivate a team a large workshop team.
  • High standards of customer service and communication across all levels.
  • Proficiency in workshop management systems and Microsoft Office applications.
  • LGV licence is advantageous but not essential.
