About this Role:

Great opportunity for an experienced/ambitious Site Manager to join the regional South Coast office of this Tier 2 main contactor, initially to work as No2 to the Project Manager for a £7m new build and refurbishment project within Southampton General Hospital.

The project is due to start on site next month. Working within the live operational hospital, the project will require regular engagement with client and stakeholders, neighbouring departments and staff.

As Site Manager you will be responsible for managing all site-based construction activities for the project from initial site set up onwards.

  • Coordination of trade sub-contractors;
  • Mid and short-term programming of works;
  • Input to design development with consultant design team;
  • Ensuring company health and safety standards are planned, communicated, achieved and enforced;
  • Review of method statements and risk assessments (RAMS);
  • Organising deliveries of materials, logistics, waste management, etc;
  • Quality control; Inspections and test plans;
  • Client and stakeholder liaison;
  • Coordination meetings with trade sub-contractors;
  • Reporting on progress against programme;
  • Issue resolution;
  • Snagging and handover.

This project will run until early 2027.

The business overall has a good pipeline of work in the region.

About the Company/Client/Project:

The contractor is the Southampton based regional office of a larger main contractor group with roughly £20m annual turnover for the region and solid pipeline of work for the future. Workload patch is typically Hampshire and Dorset with scope of works including education, healthcare, commercial, industrial, care/retirement and leisure.

Workload is typically secured through a mixture of negotiated schemes, frameworks and competitive tenders.

Requirements:

The successful candidate will be highly motivated, proactive, demonstrating excellent technical, organisational, man-management and communication skills.

Proven track record of work for a tier 1 or 2 main contractor would be advantageous, as would some previous experience of work in the healthcare sector / live hospital environment.

Ideally from a trades, construction management or engineering background with a sharp eye for detail and finishes, you will possess strong planning and problem solving ability, with a positive, 'get it right first time' approach.

This role would suit an established Site Manager, or an ambitious Assistant Site Manager looking for the opportunity to step up. You will ideally have already run your own smaller project as No1 and been No2 to the PM on larger.

You will possess your SMSTS, CSCS and First Aid qualifications for this role.
