A vacancy has arisen for a motivated, enthusiastic and reliable individual to join the Respiratory Physiology team in the role of Assistant Clinical Physiologist (band 3). The role is primarily based in our specialist sleep centre at Charing Cross Hospital, where the service provides comprehensive diagnostic testing for a wide range of sleep disorders. There is also the potential for a rotation into the Lung Function departments across the different Trust sites. You will join a multidisciplinary team including consultants, clinical scientists, physiologists and administrators.
You will be responsible for high-quality data acquisition and recording of observations during overnight sleep studies, preparation and downloading of home testing equipment and supplying replacement parts for sleep therapeutic equipment. The role involves working night shifts 1 week in 4 on a rotational basis. In lung function you will perform a range of basic diagnostic tests and support the physiologist staff with more complex testing.
This is a specialist role and direct experience is not required as full training will be given, but some experience with patients would be an advantage. Excellent customer service skills, empathy and the ability to work under pressure are essential.
• Interact closely with medical, scientific and other nursing staff to provide a high quality Sleep Service dedicated to patient care.
• Make measurements of patient height and weight and oxygen saturation and record observations on Cerner.
• Organise one’s own work load ensuring most effective use of time.
• Assist in the orientation of new staff and students.
• Take joint responsibility for stock control.
• Demonstrate an awareness of the economical use of resources and contribute to the overall control of the ward or departmental budget.
• Assist patients with the completion of questionnaires such as the Epworth Sleepiness Scale, reading and writing for them or re-phrasing terms to aid understanding if required.
• Ensure accuracy of own work.
• Understand the limits of own practice and seek assistance as appropriate.
• Provide cover for colleagues as appropriate.
