NUH is looking to appoint an enthusiastic and highly motivated Senior Clinical Fellow at ST3 level or above to support our Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Department. The post is for 12 months initially with the potential to extend.
This is an exciting opportunity to get excellent experience in OMFS including rotations in oncology and deformity sub-specialties. You will work closely with consultants, other junior doctors and multi-disciplinary teams. The post holder will be part of the 2ndon-call rota alongside trainees and other fellows on a 1:6 basis and should therefore have completed core competencies, have full MRCS and have experience working within the NHS. As NUH is home to the East Midland’s Major Trauma Centre the post holder should be experienced in trauma management.
Every day, our teams at Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust (NUH) make a difference. We save lives, we improve lives and we usher in new life. We are proud to play a central role in supporting the health and wellbeing of people in Nottingham, Nottinghamshire and our surrounding communities.
We provide a range of national and internationally renowned specialist services and we are at the forefront of new surgical procedures and research programmes. We are home to the East Midlands Major Trauma Centre, the Nottingham Children's Hospital and in partnership with the University of Nottingham we host a Biomedical Research Centre carrying out vital research into hearing, digestive diseases, respiratory, musculoskeletal disease, mental health and imaging.
We have recently become home to the latest series of Channel 4’s award-winning series 24 Hours in A&E, which takes a look inside one of the country’s busiest emergency department at QMC and showcases the dedication, passion and skill of our teams.
This is an exciting time to join NUH and help support our future ambitions.
Although this is not a training post it should be possible for an enthusiastic doctor to map their experiences to many of the core curriculum programme competences as all aspects of the syllabus are relevant to this attachment.
There are ample opportunities for work based assessments from the supervising consultants. You will also be allocated a Clinical Supervisor.
We encourage our doctors to involve themselves in audit and research. You would be expected to make yourself familiar with the processes of the audit cycle and to assess the role of audit in clinical governance and in improving patient care. Supervision for projects will be available, and support may also be available from hospital audit departments.
The post holder will be expected to;
• Provide inpatient and outpatient services (theatres and clinics) under consultant supervision
• Contribute to the emergency out of hours rota
• Supervise daily ward rounds
• Conduct patient management in line with plans agreed with the Consultants
• Support and teach junior colleagues effectively
• Participate in M&M and MDT meetings
• Contribute to Quality & Improvement Projects within the department
• Attend departmental meeting
Post holders can expect to;
• Build upon post graduate clinical experience
• Master a number of procedural techniques
• Further develop experience and expertise in the identification and management of the sick patient
• Further develop experience and familiarity in identifying and managing a wide variety of conditions, including making appropriate decisions regarding the need for admission
• Hone communication skills with patients, relatives and colleagues
• Increasingly work towards independent practice at Registrar level, leading ward rounds, assessing patients, making decisions etc. with Consultant support and supervision available
• Develop skills in managing time and conflicting priorities
