Practice Nurse Job Description Job Title: Practice Nurse Reports to: Nurse Lead / Business Manager Location:Leek Health Centre GP Surgery Salary: Dependent on experience and qualifications Hours:Part-timeJob Summary: The Practice Nurse plays a key role in delivering primary healthcare services within a general practice setting. They are responsible for assessing, screening, treating, and educating patients across a range of health conditions, supporting both acute and chronic disease management. Practice Nurses work collaboratively with GPs, healthcare assistants, and other multidisciplinary team members to provide high-quality patient care.Key Responsibilities: Clinical Duties Provide general and specific nursing care, including: Immunisations and vaccinations (childhood, travel, flu, etc.) Cervical smears Wound care and dressings Removal of sutures/clips Manage and support patients with chronic conditions: Diabetes Asthma COPD Hypertension Perform health checks and screenings Provide contraception advice (as trained) Carry out ECGs and phlebotomy (if required) Administer and manage medications and injections (e.g. B12, contraceptives) Health Promotion and Patient Education Advise patients on lifestyle changes including: Smoking cessation Diet and exercise Alcohol use Educate patients on self-care and disease prevention Administrative and Professional Duties Maintain accurate patient records using EMIS Participate in audits, clinical meetings, and quality improvement initiatives Ensure compliance with infection control and health & safety protocols Support the practice in meeting QOF, CQC, and other regulatory standards Qualifications and Requirements: Registered Nurse (RN/RGN) with current NMC registration Post-registration qualifications in areas such as asthma, diabetes, or cervical cytology (desirable but training can be provided) Previous experience in a primary care or community setting (preferred) Excellent communication and interpersonal skills Ability to work independently and as part of a team Commitment to continuous professional development Desirable Attributes: Experience using clinical IT systems (e.g., EMIS) Flexible and adaptable approach to changing demands Compassionate and patient-centred
