Kennel/ Transport Officer

Purpose
To ensure that all dogs at the Councils kennelling facility are properly cared for and in good health. This will include the cleansing of the kennels and other areas, provision of suitable food, water, bedding, exercise, veterinary care and sleeping considerations. This will include the transportation of dogs as required.

Successful candidates will be responsible for caring and good health of all dogs in Council facilities, collecting, accepting dogs into facility as well as arranging for and carrying out the removal out of the facility.

Requirements:
Driving licence
Own transport
Experience of working in kennels environment in all weathers
Experience in handling of aggressive and dangerous dogs
Working knowledge of the Animal Welfare Act
Working knowledge of the Dangerous Dogs Act
Ability to work with minimum supervision

Duties: (including but not limited to)
Making sure that dogs are in good health and properly cared for whilst in kennels and being transported
Animal Welfare
Cleanliness of kennels
Awareness of reportable or communicable disease
Transportation of dogs
Dealing with member of the public
Dealing with confrontation
Reporting defect to vehicle and equipment
Work shift pattern, working outside normal hours including evenings and weekend, flexibility to change shift according to service requirements.
