Role Overview
Care for and teach children up to the age of entry into primary school.
Support children’s early development in line with the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS).
Entry Routes and Qualifications
Typically require a relevant degree or postgraduate qualification, or significant relevant experience.
Early Years Teacher Status (EYTS) or an equivalent qualification is required.
A DBS check is mandatory.
Main Tasks
Prepare and deliver lessons following the EYFS curriculum, stimulating children’s learning.
Teach songs, rhymes, and stories; organise activities to promote language, social, and physical development.
Supervise and care for children, ensuring health, safety, and a secure learning environment.
Undertake pastoral duties.
Supervise teaching assistants and trainees.
Observe and assess children’s progress, and discuss it with parents and/or other education professionals.
Assist in planning and developing curriculum and rota of teaching duties.
