Pay rate: £20.86 per hour PAYE
Contract Type: Temporary, Anticipated 3 months
Working Arrangement: TBC, assume office and community based
Basic DBS needed for this role

In order to apply for this role you will have previous experience of supporting homelessness with a strong awareness of issues and initiatives facing local authority housing. Knowledge of relevant Lettings, Homelessness and Housing Act legislation including security of tenure and private tenants’ rights is also essential.

The role:

On behalf of a local council, we are seeking a Housing Solutions Officer to actively prevent or relieve homelessness for residents experiencing health & wellbeing issues, that are threatened or homeless in a timely fashion, and reduce the use of temporary accommodation used by the Council. This will include ensuring that up to date information is available and management of partnerships with key stakeholders and community are positively maintained.

Key Responsibilities:

Provide specialist advice & support to the residents and other stakeholders, to resolve issues relating to their housing needs by providing rapid, effective, and efficient responses to referrals received
Assess, investigate and verify applications from residents, who would like to join the Housing Register under Part VI of the Housing Act 1996 and the Council’s Allocations Scheme on an allocated casework basis
Assess, interview and verify applicants who want to make an application under Part VII of the Housing Act (1996)
Determine what duty, if any, is owed to the household under the Homeless Reduction Act (2017) and the Housing Act (1996)
Ensure that the Council fulfils its responsibilities in line with the Councils’ statutory duties under the Homelessness Reduction Act 2017 and provide reliable data and information for the Council and the Department for Communities and Local Government on the outcome of customer journey’s
Explore and explain the various housing pathways available to residents including Affordable Ownership, Local Lettings, Mobility Transfer Scheme, Mutual Exchange, Private Rented Scheme, Home-Swapper and Homefinder.



What the client is looking for:

Thorough understanding of Central London housing issues and an understanding of access to social housing locally.
Awareness of issues and initiatives facing local authority housing. Knowledge of relevant Lettings, Homelessness and Housing Act legislation including security of tenure and private tenants’ rights
A good knowledge of services, benefits and support available to applicants experiencing housing problems
A good understanding of Local Housing Policy
Experience of providing an effective advice service to members of the public
Experience of implementing an equality and diversity approach to service delivery
Experience of working in a team
Experience of effective record keeping including electronically to a high standard
Experience of successfully working to performance targets and deadlines
