Are you passionate about delivering high-quality HR support and driving positive change across the employee lifecycle?

We are seeking a proactive People/HR Advisor to join our dynamic People Service Centre team. In this pivotal role, you’ll provide first-level, solutions-focused HR advice on a wide range of employment matters, oversee employee relations case management, and ensure a seamless, customer-focused service. You’ll also supervise and support our People Administrators, ensuring all HR queries and documentation meet the highest standards of legal and policy compliance.

What you will be doing

  • Contribute to shaping HR advice that supports inclusion, engagement, and organisational values.
  • Oversee and manage end-to-end case management support for all employee relations (ER) cases across the employee lifecycle.
  • Develop the Fresh Service system to enhance customer-focused service and reporting capabilities.
  • Oversee quality assurance of all HR documents to ensure policy and legal compliance, accuracy, and consistency.
  • Support and upskill managers to effectively handle informal staff issues and provide best practice advice to minimise escalation.
  • Work flexibly and with integrity to meet the needs of WMCA and the People & Culture Services Team.
  • Collaborate closely with the ER & Policy team and People Business Partners to ensure effective and timely management of ER cases, escalating where necessary.
  • Work with the Health, Safety & Wellbeing team and EDI Partner on employee wellbeing, workplace adjustments, and issuing Passports.
  • Contribute to the development and upskilling of the People Admin team and enhance manager capability through coaching and support.
  • Deliver consistent, timely, and legally informed first-level advice to managers on HR relations issues.
  • Manage ER case support, including recording, tracking, and reporting for seamless service.
  • Manage Fresh Service tickets, ensuring fair allocation and timely action for a customer-focused service.
  • Oversee document preparation and responses, ensuring accuracy, consistency, and best practice.
  • Ensure accurate and timely completion of the Payroll tracker in conjunction with People Systems & Data.
  • Develop and review HR process mapping to improve effectiveness, audit compliance, and user experience.

What you need

  • Educated to degree level.
  • CIPD qualified to level 5.
  • Experience of working in an HR Service Centre providing advice and transactional services across the employee lifecycle.
  • Proven experience in providing HR advice and support on employee relations issues across the ER casework lifecycle.
  • Experience in developing and improving HR processes to improve effective services and evidence-based audit compliance.
  • Evidence of using coaching skills to develop managers’ competence and confidence in dealing with people management issues.
  • Understanding and knowledge of relevant employment legislation.
  • Good understanding of HR processes and ways of working.
  • Excellent time management skills with the ability to plan and organise a varied workload.
  • Ability to use own initiative and make sound decisions based on policy and agreed scope.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a high level of tact and discretion.
  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Evidence of continued professional development.

Location.

The location for this role is 16 Summer Lane, Birmingham, B19 3SD with at least 2 days a week spent in the office.

We advertise salary ranges, with new appointments typically starting at the lowest salary point. In exceptional cases, the salary point may be adjusted to secure the best candidate.
