A highly regarded specialist SEN school in Barking & Dagenham is looking for a dedicated Behaviour Support Assistant to join their team. The school is recognised for its inclusive approach, providing tailored education and therapeutic support for pupils with autism (ASC), ADHD, SEMH (Social, Emotional & Mental Health needs), and additional learning difficulties.
The Role – Behaviour Support Assistant
As a Behaviour Support Assistant, you will:
• Provide 1:1 and small group support for pupils with challenging behaviours
• Implement behaviour support strategies in partnership with teachers and therapists
• Support students with emotional regulation, coping strategies, and managing triggers
• Contribute to a safe, structured, and nurturing learning environment
• Assist with classroom routines, transitions, and structured play activities
• Work collaboratively with teachers, SENCOs, and pastoral staff to track progress and celebrate achievements
Ideal Candidate – Behaviour Support Assistant
• Graduate (Psychology, Education, or a related subject advantageous) OR experienced in behaviour/youth support
• Strong behaviour management and de-escalation skills
• Empathetic, patient, and able to remain calm under pressure
• Previous experience supporting pupils with SEN, SEMH, or in a youth work setting is desirable but not essential
• Must have the right to work in the UK (sponsorship is not available)
