Are you passionate about chemistry education and want to help shape the future of chemistry education?

We're looking for an Assistant Editor, Education Magazine & Journals to join our team for 18 months, where you'll play a vital role in producing high-quality content that supports chemistry teachers across the UK and Republic of Ireland.

In this role you will be responsible for:

Content creation & editorial - Commission, edit and publish high-quality articles for Education in Chemistry across digital and print platforms. Develop content ideas, manage the editorial pipeline and ensure accuracy through copy-editing and proofreading.

Stakeholder management - Build and maintain professional relationships with freelance contributors, authors and internal teams while managing the continuous publishing schedule.

Audience engagement & research - Drive our online presence across social media channels and conduct regular reader surveys to analyse content impact and performance, including managing termly reader panels and biennial surveys.

Chemistry education expertise - Develop expertise in chemistry education needs across the UK and Ireland, contribute to cross-departmental projects and manage the RSC Education news channel while supporting broader educational services.

Administrative support - Share administrative responsibilities including meeting coordination, financial processes, contract management, customer service support and budget tracking alongside the other assistant editor.

At the RSC we embrace flexibility and offer hybrid working, which means our teams come together when they need to collaborate. Although this role is contractually based at our Cambridge office, you will be able to work from home within the UK, with the expectation that you will attend the office as needed for your role.

In this role it is expected that you will ideally attend the office one day per week, with a minimum of monthly visits. If you need flexible working arrangements, please outline this in your application.

What we are looking for:

Essential:

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

Ability to cultivate and maintain positive relations with customers and other stakeholders

Proven experience of writing and/or editing content for the web to engage and grow an online audience

Proven experience of proofreading, editing and digital content management

Good organisational skills and the ability to manage competing demands and workload

Highly motivated, adaptable and able to work with relatively little supervision

Understanding of digital publishing systems and processes

Demonstrable time management skills and experience of meeting deadlines

Strong interest in science education, along with some knowledge of the UK and Irish education systems

If you are interested in this role, please apply before the end of the closing date. When applying, please provide an up-to-date CV and a cover letter (in no more than 500 words) telling us about your relevant knowledge, skills and competencies and why you think you will be a good fit for this role.
