  • 26 days' holiday, rising to 28 days after 2 years' service and 31 days after 5 years' service
  • Option to buy up to 10 days of additional annual leave
  • A generous local government salary related pension

  • A chance to make a real difference to the lives of our residents

About the Role

As Assistant Team Manager, you'll play a key role in shaping practice, supporting staff development, and ensuring excellent outcomes for our residents.

You'll be part of a well-established leadership structure, recognised across the service for its impact and value. We offer a nurturing and inclusive environment, where your leadership will help others grow and thrive. You'll be supported by experienced colleagues and senior management, with a strong emphasis on collaboration and continuous improvement.

The Epsom & Ewell Team is known for its dynamic, strengths-based approach to Adult Social Care. We pride ourselves on being responsive, supportive, and committed to achieving the best outcomes for our residents. Regular supervision, peer support, and a culture of learning are central to how we work.

Key responsibilities as an Assistant Team Manager include:

  • Providing professional supervision and guidance to team members
  • Managing the day-to-day operations of a busy locality team
  • Responding flexibly and quickly to the changing needs that arise in a high-pressure locality team environment
  • Supporting staff development and performance
  • Ensuring safeguarding vulnerable adults' procedures are followed effectively
  • Providing management that supports and promotes Surrey County Council's Equality and Diversity policy

Your Application

In order to be considered for shortlisting, your application will clearly evidence the following skills and align with our behaviours:

  • A professional social work qualification and registration with Social Work England
  • Significant post-qualification experience, including experience in a social care setting, and an excellent understanding of the social care and health agendas
  • Applied knowledge of Adult Social Care legislation, including the Mental Capacity Act and NHS Continuing Healthcare Framework
  • Effective knowledge of safeguarding vulnerable adults' procedures
  • Excellent communication skills that enable you to successfully manage a team and develop relationships
  • Examples of when you have provided effective professional supervision to less experienced colleagues
  • A track record in inter-agency, partnership working
  • Strong commitment to achieving positive, strengths-based outcomes that promote maximum community inclusion, and personal choice and control

Surrey has both urban and rural areas and locality based social care workers will be expected to have a valid driving licence to drive in the UK, access to a vehicle and be willing to travel across a wide geographical area. Reasonable adjustments where needed will be made for successful applicants who have a disability or long-term health condition to enable them to fulfil the requirements of the job.

An enhanced DBS 'Disclosure and Barring Service' check for regulated activity (formerly known as CRB) and the Children's and Adults' Barred List checks will be required for this role.

Local Government Reorganisation (LGR)

Surrey County Council is undergoing Local Government Reorganisation, moving from a two-tier system to new unitary councils in April 2027. Your role will transfer with current terms and conditions to one of these new councils, supporting local devolution and greater powers for our communities.

Our Commitment

We are a disability confident employer which means if you have shared a disability on your application form and have evidenced you meet the minimum criteria, we guarantee you an interview.

Your skills and experience truly matter to us. From application to your first day, we're committed to supporting you with any adjustments you need, we value inclusion and warmly welcome you to join and help build a workplace where everyone belongs.

The job advert closes at 23:59 on 05/10/2025 with interviews planned to follow.
