Location: Chelson Meadow, Plymouth City Council
Contract: 20 October 2025 – initially 3 months likely to be extended
Hours: 37 per week | Monday–Friday, 06:00–14:30
Rate: £15.08 PAYE

Plymouth City Council is seeking a reliable and physically fit HGV Driver to provide essential cover during a period of long-term sickness. Based at Chelson Meadow, this short-term assignment offers a great opportunity to contribute to the city’s frontline services.
About the Role
You’ll be responsible for operating heavy goods vehicles across Plymouth, supporting waste collection and other essential services. The role requires manual handling of heavy bins and a strong understanding of the local area to ensure efficient route coverage.
Key Responsibilities
Safely operate HGVs in line with council procedures and road safety regulations
Carry out waste collection duties, including lifting and moving heavy bins
Navigate routes across Plymouth using local knowledge to optimise efficiency
Maintain vehicle cleanliness and report any faults or incidents promptly
Work collaboratively with the wider team to meet service delivery targets
Ideal Candidate
Valid HGV licence and CPC qualification
Proven experience in driving large vehicles, ideally in a public service context
Good working knowledge of Plymouth’s road network
Physically fit and capable of manual handling tasks
Reliable, punctual, and committed to high standards of service
