St. Cuthbert’s RC High School are currently seeking a highly motivated and ambitious Second in Mathematics. This is a unique and exciting opportunity for a passionate subject expert who wants to play a key role in shaping and strengthening our Maths department.
As Second in Department, you will support the Head of Maths in building strong foundations for a thriving team, inspiring a love of mathematics across the school, and helping to establish a department that delivers consistently excellent outcomes for all students. You will contribute to curriculum design, model high-quality teaching, and support colleagues to develop their practice.
At St. Cuthbert’s RC High School, we are a diverse and vibrant community, committed to fostering an inclusive, innovative, and dynamic environment for both students and staff. This is more than just a job—it is an opportunity to make your mark, influence the direction of the department, and grow as a leader in a supportive and forward-looking school.
We welcome applications from candidates of all backgrounds, experiences, and perspectives. Diversity strengthens our team, and we are committed to building an inclusive community where every member feels valued and supported. Flexible working arrangements may be considered for the right candidate.

• Brings strong interpersonal skills and a collaborative spirit, with the ability to support and motivate others.
• Can demonstrate a proven track record of raising achievement and delivering positive impact.
• In return, you will have the opportunity to help build a Maths department that can become a real strength of the school, while developing your own leadership skills in a supportive and forward-looking environment.
What the school offers its staff
We can offer:
• A supportive and dedicated Local Governing Body and Staff
• Highly effective safeguarding procedures.
• A working environment where all feel valued and respected.
• Supportive colleagues and governors with a clear vision and high aspirations for the school.
• A highly dedicated and inspirational team.
• A commitment to relevant, personalised Continuous Professional Development.
• A happy, calm and welcoming working environment.
• Opportunities to work within the wider STOCCAT team
