About the Role - Graduate Classroom Assistant
Islington Community Primary a welcoming and inclusive two-form entry school, is seeking a Graduate Classroom Assistant to join the team.
The school sits at the heart of a lively and diverse North London neighbourhood, with pupils speaking over 30 home languages and bringing a rich mix of cultures into the classroom. Known for its strong inclusive ethos, the school has particular expertise in supporting children with SEN, EAL and speech & language needs, and works closely with families and outside agencies to ensure every pupil thrives.
Learning extends beyond the classroom, with an award-winning gardening club, a vibrant music programme (including a community steel pan band), and strong partnerships with arts organisations in Angel and Finsbury Park. Weekly “Wellbeing Wednesdays” include mindfulness, sport and creative workshops to nurture resilience and confidence.
You’ll work across Early Years, KS1 or KS2, supporting whole-class lessons, delivering small-group learning, and providing 1:1 interventions tailored to pupils’ needs.
Key Responsibilities - Graduate Classroom Assistant
• Support class teachers with planning and daily classroom routines
• Deliver small-group sessions in phonics, literacy or numeracy
• Provide targeted 1:1 support for pupils with SEN, EAL or speech & language needs
• Prepare and adapt resources, including visual aids
• Monitor, record and feedback on pupil progress and behaviour (under teacher guidance)
• Contribute to a positive, inclusive and engaging classroom climate
Who We’re Looking For - Graduate Classroom Assistant
• A graduate with a 2:1 or above (any subject; Psychology, English, Education desirable)
• Previous experience with children (e.g. tutoring, volunteering, coaching, or paid work)
• Calm, adaptable, reflective, and eager to learn from mentors and CPD
• Committed to working full-time for a full academic year
• DBS check (or willingness to apply) and the right to work in the UK
