Crynodeb

This apprenticeship, which follows the Laboratory Technician Level 3 standard, provides hands-on experience and formal training to develop the core knowledge, skills, and behaviors needed for a successful career in dental technology. You will work under the supervision of experienced technicians to ensure all work meets the high standards required by the industry.

Pay: £12.21 per hour

Hours: Monday to Friday, 9 am to 5 pm

Key Responsibilities
Your daily tasks will include:

Appliance Manufacturing and Repair: Learn and apply techniques to construct, repair, and adapt a wide range of dental appliances , including simple acrylic removable prosthodontic appliances , single-unit fixed prosthodontic appliances (such as crowns and bridges) , and simple orthodontic appliances like Hawley retainers.

Prescription Interpretation: Accurately interpret and fulfill basic prescription requirements and terminology from dentists.

Material and Equipment Use: Work with a variety of materials such as dental alloys, ceramics, polymers, and gypsum. You will be trained in the use of specialized lab equipment and tools for tasks like waxing, flasking, and polishing.

Technical Skills: Develop core skills in dental anatomy and the properties of materials , including their physical, mechanical, and biological characteristics, to ensure proper function and biocompatibility in the oral environment. You will also perform final checks and ensure products are fit for purpose.

Health and Safety: Adhere to strict cross-infection protocols and health and safety procedures. This includes understanding the decontamination of impressions and dentures.

Record Keeping and Compliance: Maintain accurate laboratory records and ensure all work complies with the UK Medical Devices Regulation (MDR) and other legal and ethical standards.

Communication: Communicate effectively with the dental team, including dentists and colleagues, and learn how to manage patient-related information confidentially.

Skills and Qualifications
Essential:

A strong interest in science and a desire to learn a skilled trade.

Attention to detail and excellent manual dexterity for fine, intricate work.

Ability to work effectively as part of a team.

Willingness to learn and adapt to new technologies and processes.

Desirable:

GCSE English and Maths at Grade C/4 or above (or an equivalent qualification).

Learning and Development
This apprenticeship is a 15-month program, plus an End-Point Assessment period. You will receive dedicated support from experienced technical professionals and tutors through a blended learning approach that includes:

Weekly live online sessions.

Access to an online training platform for on-demand resources.

Regular one-to-one meetings with your tutor to track your progress and personalize your learning.

Upon successful completion, you will be eligible for professional registration with the Science Council as a

Registered Science Technician (RSciTech). -Training to be Provided
