Senior Structural Design Engineer
Location: This permanent role is based at either our Halifax or Billingham office.
We are seeking an experienced Senior Structural Design Engineer to join our growing team. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone with a strong background in structural steel design to contribute to technically challenging projects across the UK.
About the Role:
Due to continued expansion, we are looking for a senior structural design engineer with the ability to manage projects independently as well as collaboratively within the design team. You will be working on buildings such as universities, offices, and bridges, not warehouses, staircases, balconies, or fabrication-only projects.
You’ll play a key role in project delivery, liaising with clients, engineers, and architects, while also mentoring junior team members.
Key Responsibilities:
Delivering structural steelwork design to the highest standards, in line with British and European design codes.
Producing both manual and software design calculations.
Leading projects either independently or within a wider team.
Attending and conducting meetings with clients, engineers, and architects.
Working within design budgets and reporting to the Head of Design.
Designing steel frames, members, and connections, and supporting with temporary works where required.
Coordinating with subcontractors and internal departments to meet project demands.
Supporting and mentoring graduate engineers.
Contributing to continuous improvement initiatives across the business.
Maintaining strong client relationships and ensuring excellent project feedback.
Role Requirements:
Minimum 10 years’ experience in structural steelwork design.
Previous experience working with a UK-based steelwork fabricator.
Degree-educated, ideally working towards incorporated or chartered status.
Strong knowledge of British and European standards/codes.
Skilled in using design software including:
Tekla Structural Designer
Tekla Portal Designer
Masterseries
S-Frame
Idea Statica
Cold rolled suppliers’ design software
Experience with temporary works design is advantageous.
Strong communication skills, with the ability to raise queries and coordinate effectively.
Self-motivated, with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Commitment to working within company QA procedures.
Package & Benefits:
Salary: £50,000 – £60,000 (depending on experience)
Holidays: 33 days (including Bank Holidays & Christmas closedown)
Pension: 5% company contribution, 3% employee contribution

Working Hours: 37.5 hours, with flexitime for work-life balance
