Join Over 240 Years of British Knitwear Excellence
Based at our historic Lea Mills factory
Help Us Bring Our Iconic Knitwear to Life
Do you enjoy detailed, hands-on work? Are you someone who takes pride in creating something of real quality?
At John Smedley, we’ve been making the world’s finest knitwear since 1784. We’re now looking for a Knitwear Production Specialist (Linker) to join our team and help us continue this tradition of craftsmanship.
What’s the Role?
This role is all about the finishing touches – bringing together the separate panels of our garments (such as sleeves, collars, and trims) to create a perfectly made piece of knitwear. You’ll use a specialist linking machine to join pieces together with precision and care.
Don’t worry if you haven’t used a linking machine before – we’ll provide full training. If you’ve worked in sewing, tailoring, textiles, or any hands-on craft where attention to detail is key, you’ll have the skills to succeed.
What You’ll Do:
Join together knitted garment panels with care and accuracy
Make sure every stitch is neat, even, and finished to the highest standard
Match colours and threads with a sharp eye for detail
Support production targets while maintaining quality
Work closely with a team of skilled makers who share pride in their craft
What We’re Looking For:
Great hand-eye coordination and attention to detail
Calm, methodical, and takes pride in producing quality work
Team player, eager to learn and develop
Experience in sewing, tailoring, textiles, or another hands-on craft is a plus – but not essential
Why Join John Smedley?
Be part of a globally respected heritage brand
Learn a rare, highly valued skill – or build on existing expertise
Work in a supportive, friendly team in a unique factory setting
Enjoy job stability, training, and the pride of making something meaningful
See garments you’ve helped create worn and loved around the world
This is more than just a job – it’s a chance to learn a specialist craft and join a 240-year tradition of quality, care, and craftsmanship.
Ready to Apply?
We’d love to hear from you.
