Job Title: SEN Learning Support Assistant

Location: Middlesbrough

Company: AK Teaching

Hours: 8:30-15:30 full time (term time)



AK Teaching is currently partnering with a special needs school in Middlesbrough that provides tailored support for children with additional needs. The school caters to students facing social, emotional, and mental health challenges, including those with Autism diagnoses.

Location: Middlesbrough

Age Range: 11 to 19 years

Student Needs: The school supports young people with a range of additional needs, including Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), and Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) difficulties. Many students may also present with challenging behaviour.

Positive Reinforcement: Pupils are actively encouraged and rewarded for good attendance and positive behaviour, fostering a supportive and motivating learning environment.

The Role

This is a full-time position, requiring availability from 08:30 to 15:30, Monday to Friday.

Key Responsibilities:
- Assist in facilitating day-to-day classroom activities
- Provide support to pupils with ASD, ADHD, and SEMH needs
- Promote good attendance and engagement
- Help de-escalate challenging behaviours when they arise
- Deliver 1:1 support to pupils where required
- Offer both academic and emotional support tailored to individual needs

Requirements
- Previous experience working in a similar setting is essential
- Confidence in supporting children and young adults who display challenging behaviour
- A valid DBS on the Update Service or willingness to apply for one
- A minimum of a Level 2 qualification is desirable but not essential
