Are you a recent graduate with a degree in Psychology, Linguistics, or Modern Foreign Languages? - Graduate Speech & Language Teaching Assistant
Are you considering a career in Speech and Language Therapy (SaLT) and looking for valuable hands-on experience?
This welcoming specialist SEN school in St Albans is offering an exciting opportunity for a graduate to join their therapy and SEND team from September. Pupils are aged 4–16 and present with a range of needs, including:
• Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC)
• Developmental Language Disorder (DLD)
• Speech, Language and Communication Needs (SLCN)
• Broader learning difficulties
You will work closely with the school’s qualified SaLTs and SENCO, supporting tailored interventions that build pupils’ communication skills, social confidence, and independence.
What You’ll Be Doing - Graduate Speech & Language Teaching Assistant
• Delivering 1:1 and small-group sessions to develop pupils’ language and communication.
• Using strategies and tools such as Makaton, PECS, and visual supports.
• Tracking progress and supporting the delivery of EHCP targets.
• Collaborating with therapists, teachers, and support staff to create inclusive classrooms.
• Helping foster a communication-rich environment across the school.
About You - Graduate Speech & Language Teaching Assistant
• A recent graduate (2:1 or above preferred) in Psychology, Linguistics, or MFL.
• A confident communicator with a passion for child development and SEN.
• Experience with children or young people with additional needs is desirable.
• Patient, empathetic, and adaptable when faced with challenges.
• Ready to commit to a full academic year in a rewarding SEN setting.
