About the role
The Retail Operations department is responsible for generating income and profit for the Bodleian Libraries, through our on-site shops, online at https://bodleianshop.co.uk/, and through our wholesale business. Bodleian Retail is going through an exciting period of growth and development. We’re looking for two enthusiastic and committed individuals to join our small team and contribute to the ongoing success of the department.
You will deliver a world-class experience for our customers, interact with visitors from a variety of backgrounds and provide excellent customer service, using product knowledge to inspire our customers and maximise sales. You will follow operating procedures and cash handling regulations to ensure shop security, whilst creating a welcoming environment for our visitors.
There are two positions available. These are permanent, part-time positions with the following FTEs/work patterns available:
• Post 1: 11 hours per week / 0.3 FTE – Sundays & Mondays
• Post 2: 17 hours per week / 0.47 FTE – Tuesdays, Wednesdays & Thursdays
Please indicate your preferred FTE/work pattern on the supporting evidence form.
Some weekend and bank holiday working will be required. Due to the nature of the role, there is no opportunity for remote working.
About You
You will have previous retail experience in a customer facing roll and be a confident team player who thrives in a busy retail environment. You will enjoy helping and interacting with people at all levels and strive for a positive experience for all customers. You will be able to demonstrate strong interpersonal skills, with a pro-active approach to resolving problems and good attention to detail.
What We Offer
As an employer, we genuinely care about our employees’ wellbeing and this is reflected in the range of benefits that we offer including:
• An excellent contributory pension scheme
• 38 days of annual leave
• A comprehensive range of childcare services
• Family leave schemes

Diversity
Our staff and students come from all over the world, and we proudly promote a friendly and inclusive culture. Diversity is positively encouraged, through diverse groups and champions, as well as a number of family-friendly policies, such as the right to apply for flexible working and support for staff returning from periods of extended absence, for example, shared parental leave.
We are committed to ensuring that our recruitment processes are inclusive and accessible. If you require the job description or any other materials in an alternative format, or if you would like to request any adjustments to support you through the application or interview process, please contact the recruitment team at recruitment@glam.ox.ac.uk.
How to apply
You will be required to upload your CV and a supporting evidence form using the attached template as part of your online application. Your supporting evidence form should list each of the essential and desirable selection criteria, as listed in the job description, and explain how you meet each one. Both documents must be submitted to be considered.
We aim to provide a supportive working environment and are happy to discuss training and professional development opportunities. The Chair of this recruitment panel will be Beata Kruszelnicka, Retail Manager, who can be contacted with enquiries relating to the role (beata.kruszelnicka@bodleian.ox.ac.uk).
