Our client is seeking an experienced SEN Assessment & Review Officer with an active Enhanced DBS to work directly with senior staff across a designated group of schools, ensuring compliance with the Children and Families Act 2014 and the SEND Code of Practice 2015. Candidates must have experience of working within SEND processes, experience drafting EHC Plans or similar statutory documentation and working directly with schools, nurseries, or colleges.



The Role:


Implement and co-ordinate the statutory needs assessment and review process for children and young people with SEND.


Support, guide and where necessary challenge schools, professionals and families to ensure legal compliance and best outcomes.


Manage a complex caseload, overseeing Education, Health and Care (EHC) needs assessments and reviews.


Develop aspirational, holistic and outcome-focused EHC Plans that fully reflect children and young people’s needs.


Provide day-to-day supervision and management support to case co-ordinators.


Key Responsibilities:


Work collaboratively with parents, carers, children and young people to ensure assessments are transparent, accessible and person-centered.


Partner with schools and education providers, offering advice, challenge and direction on SEND assessment and review processes.


Co-produce EHC Plans with families, ensuring professional advice is integrated, outcomes are ambitious, and plans are legally compliant.


Support families and young people to identify aspirations that inform effective planning.


Negotiate with education providers on placements for pupils with EHC Plans.


Manage sensitive and complex situations with families, professionals and schools to minimise conflict and achieve positive solutions.


Co-ordinate contributions from health, social care and education professionals, ensuring joined-up, outcome-driven plans.


Represent the SEND service in discussions with other local authorities regarding placements and reviews.


Assess reports from professionals and make timely recommendations on EHC planning.


Chair EHC planning or Team Around the Child (TAC) meetings where appropriate.


Maintain accurate records and case summaries, preparing documentation for panels and review meetings.


Provide line management and supervision to case co-ordinators, ensuring quality and consistency in their work.


Uphold equality, inclusion, health and safety and customer care standards in all aspects of service delivery.


Person Specification and Experience:


Education to A-level standard (including GCSE English).


Experience working within SEND processes.


Experience drafting EHC Plans or similar statutory documentation.


Experience of working directly with schools, nurseries, or colleges.


Knowledge:



Strong knowledge of education systems (primary, secondary or further education).


Understanding of SEND reforms and legislation including the Children and Families Act 2014 and the SEND Code of Practice 2015.


Awareness of DfE guidance relating to SEND.


Skills and Abilities:



Proficient in IT systems including word processing, spreadsheets, databases and reporting tools.


Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to work confidently with parents, young people, professionals and stakeholders.


Strong partnership and relationship-building skills.


Ability to challenge schools, professionals and families constructively in line with statutory requirements.


Skilled in outcome-focused planning and co-production.


Ability to prioritise, manage a varied workload and remain resilient under pressure.


Strong presentation, negotiation and advisory skills.
