Crynodeb

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced and motivated State Registered Clinical Embryologist (or final year STP student) to join our laboratory team at Cambridge IVF. Our state of the art NHS fertility centre offers a full range of diagnostic and treatment techniques including EmbryoScope culture, a successful gamete and embryo cryopreservation program and advanced methods for sperm preparation, selection and injection.

We offer high quality evidence based treatment to NHS funded patients and also to those self-funding their care at exceptional value.

This is without doubt one of the most forward thinking units in the UK and with a commitment to high level research and development coupled with links into existing local research groups within the Cambridge BioMedical Campus, The Sanger Institute and beyond, this is a very exciting time to be joining our team.

Applicants should possess a First or Upper Second Class Biological Sciences degree, a relevant postgraduate qualification and be state registered as a Clinical Embryologist. In addition, they will be able to demonstrate a proven track record in Clinical Embryology. Although the post holder would preferentially be skilled in ICSI, training would be provided in ICSI to the right candidate should they not possess this skill.

A Clinical Scientist state registered with the HCPC (or in the last year of the STP program), a member of ACE and in good standing with both organisations.

To apply scientific knowledge, highly developed specialist skills and expertise to deliver a range of assisted conception and diagnostic services in the East of England’s largest NHS tertiary referral centre.

To contribute to the maintenance of efficient embryology and andrology services within the terms of the Human Fertilisation and Embryology Act and the HFEA Code of Practice.

To contribute to the safe operation of the facility cryostore, its audit and generation of paperwork for its inspection.

To work with the other members of the laboratory, nursing and medical teams and all other professions allied to the Addenbrooke’s Fertility Services to deliver the highest quality of patient care and clinical excellence.

Our Trust

Cambridge University Hospitals (CUH) NHS Foundation Trust comprises Addenbrooke’s Hospital and the Rosie Hospital in Cambridge. With over 13,000 staff and over 1100 beds the priorities of the Trust focus on a quality service which is all about people – patients, staff and partners. Recognised as providing ‘outstanding’ care to our patients and rated ‘Good’ overall by the Care Quality Commissioner, is testament to the skill and dedication of the people who work here. CUH’s values – Together - Safe, Kind, Excellent – are at the heart of patient care, defining the way all staff work and behave. The Trust provides accessible high-quality healthcare for the local people of Cambridge, together with specialist services, dealing with rare or complex conditions for a regional, national and international population.

CUH is committed to promoting a diverse and inclusive community - a place where we can all be ourselves. We value our differences and fully advocate and support an inclusive working environment where every individual can fulfil their potential. We want to ensure our people are truly representative of all the communities that we serve. We welcome applications for all positions in the organisation irrespective of people’s age, disability, ethnicity, race, nationality, gender identity, sex, sexual orientation, religion or belief, marriage and civil partnership status, or pregnancy and maternity status or social economic background.

Applications from pre-registrant embryologists in the final year of the UK STP program are welcomed. These would be as a band 6 position advancing to band 7 when UK State Registration is achieved.

The working hours will be divided over 4 long days (07:30-17:30) rather than a traditional 5 day working week as this shift pattern better supports the needs of the service.

The position will require weekend and out of hours work and inclusion on a laboratory out of hours on-call rota.

Please see the attached Applicant Information Pack (combined Job Description and Person Specification) for key duties and responsibilities.

For NHS Cambridgeshire and Peterborough based roles, all applicants from NHS Cambridgeshire and Peterborough who have identified that they are at risk of redundancy will be prioritised over those not at risk. However, interviews cannot be guaranteed.

Due to Home Office immigration rules, a full time permanent vacancy cannot be filled by individuals on a Student visa. Therefore, please be advised that if you are a Student visa holder, we will not be able to offer you a full time permanent contract unless you have:
- applied for a Graduate visa
- or you will have successfully completed your course and have applied for a Graduate visa before the anticipated start date of your employment
- or the Trust has agreed that they will Sponsor you as a Skilled Worker and you will complete your studies within 3 months of the anticipated start date of employment.

This vacancy will close at midnight on 24th September 2025

Interviews are due to be held on 1st October 2025
