If you’ve worked as an Assistant Research & Development Technician within a manufacturing or specialist paint manufacturing environment, then great. But if not, and you’re keen to work in a ‘hands on’ role, testing specialist paints then this could be the job for you.

JOB OVERVIEW
We have a fantastic new job opportunity for an R&D Assistant Technician who is comfortable using hand tools, such as grinders, drills and paddle mixers with the commitment to become a fully trained R&D Technician.
Working as an R&D Assistant Technician you will play a hands-on role in the development and testing of cutting-edge coatings and materials. From fire testing and spray application to thermocoupling and steel identification, as the R&D Assistant Technician you will gain comprehensive technical training while working alongside experienced chemists to shape innovative products. Your contributions will directly support the achievement of the department’s research goals, giving you the chance to make a real impact from day one.
DUTIES
Your duties as the R&D Assistant Technician include:
• Commit to becoming a fully trained R&D Technician learning, for example, Fire Testing, Spray Application, Hand Application, Thermocoupling and Steel identification, etc.
• Work together with the chemist, in developing, testing and evaluating paint/binder/raw materials in order that the aims of the R&D plan are reached. This includes giving constructive feedback on both ongoing and finished work
• Report results continuously, in writing and orally, also simple standard reports, to ensure that involved parties are informed
• Knowledge and use of necessary safety equipment and to take into consideration general safety. This includes being able to understand content and the meaning of safety data sheets.
• Work closely with external witnesses to help meet certification requirements with both
• Fire testing and Application, and to assess test results
The role involves daily manual handling and frequent lifting
CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTS
• Be comfortable using hand tools, such as grinders, drills, paddle-mixers
• Act on own initiative and take responsibility for own duties
• Be flexible in their approach to work
• Have excellent time management and attention to detail
• Be structured in their daily tasks with a ‘can do’ attitude
• Work well as a member of a team
• Be people and task orientated
• Be comfortable working in a fast-paced environment
• Be willing to work off-site for 20+ days per year
• Have experience of working within the coatings industry is preferred and experience of intumescent products is particularly preferred
