Support required by Personal Assistant: For A 73 year old Male
*** A DBS IS REQUIRED BEFORE YOU CAN START EMPLOYMENT. ****
2 X Personal Assistants to assist with tasks:
Support to anticipate care needs. The Individual struggles to communicate his needs due to brain injury and hardness of hearing. Staff to ensure he is wearing his hearing aids. Support to monitor body temperature and support appropriately.
Support with all transfers (requires regular repositioning due to discomfort and towards pressure relief). Carers to adhere to Occupational therapist handling plan.
Support with personal care and hygiene (wash/shower/bath/grooming and oral care). Prompting and encouragement required during tasks.
Support with continence care and hygiene, monitor catheter blockages and report concerns. The Individual is doubly incontinent, wears pad and has a catheter in situ. He may require a wash / bath during continence care.
Support with pressure care/relief/repositioning, monitor pressure areas and report concerns to relevant professionals.
Support to meet all nutritional needs and fluids. The individual eats a normal diet cut up into small manageable pieces. The individual can eat his meals independently when prepared and served however he takes time to eat. He may require feeding when tired or unwell. He uses a straw to drink and his nutrition requires monitoring to ensure an adequate diet.
Support with general supervision to ensure safety. The individual cannot be left on his own.
Use of Hoists will need hoisting at times
DRIVER PREFERRED: Use of the Clients mobility car. To take the client to medical appointments.
• Carers will not be using their own transport during their work with Individual, they will hopefully be able to drive our van and insurance will be covered by the Motability scheme so long as the carer meets the criteria required, which are not onerous.
All carers appointed must be prepared to apply for/have DPS clearance. Pending DPS clearance, all care undertaken will be under the supervision of the employer in keeping with social worker guidelines.
£13.50 for p/a on the payroll. Self/Employed personal assistant as long as all documentation is produced to the direct payments team, can be paid £16 per hour.
1. Supporting the employer with encouragement in gaining independence
2. Enabling the employer to interact socially in their community
3. Providing support to the employer whilst shopping and attending activities of interest
4. Supporting the employer to develop independent living skills
5. To provide companionship in the employer’s home, including engaging in conversation with the employer and providing them with social interaction
6. Encouraging the employer to attend appointments
7. Ensuring the employer’s safety at all times during your working hours
8. To carry out any other reasonable tasks that are requested by the employer during your working hours
9. To ensure compliance with Data Protection Act.
10. Be responsible for contacting the GP, Social Worker or Local Authority should the employer need medical assistance.
Relationships: Communication / Nature of Contacts:
1. Ability to develop supportive and caring relationship with employer.
2. To undertake all duties in a friendly and helpful manner.
3. Able to contact people on behalf of the employer when necessary.
Job Working Environment:
Working in employer’s homes and supporting them to access facilities and community activities.
Person specification – Qualifications, Knowledge, Experience & Skills:
1. Caring, patient and friendly.
2. Responsible, reliable and honest.
3. Proactive and self-motivated with the ability to work on own initiative.
4. Has good local knowledge of the area where the employer lives.
5. Good time-keeping and flexibility around working patterns and duties as determined by the employer’s requirements.
6. Ability to keep simple records such as time recording.
7. Good communicator able to talk to people on behalf of the employer when required.
8. Able to develop long-term supportive and consistent relationships with employers.
9. A full, clean driving licence and use of a car is likely to be required. This is determined by the needs of the employer and whether you live within walking distance.
10. You must be prepared to have business use on your vehicle insurance to be able to use the vehicle within work hours
11. Be prepared to undergo training in order to best meet the employers need.

A Disclosure Barring Service Check (DBS) / criminal record check will require to be undertaken for this post. This will be completed on acceptance of job offer.
