A Vacancy at Frimley Health NHS Foundation Trust.
Please note, this role requires Experience in Urology to ST6 level
(Registrar level) and above.
This fellowship post has been created in order to provide a focused and concentrated training opportunity in the modern management of renal cancer with some learning opportunities in more core and other specialist urological areas. There are also opportunities to be involved in basic research into renal cancer at the University of Surrey. This post is recognised under the Royal College of Surgeons Senior Clinical Fellowship Scheme.
This post is ideally suited for those towards the end of their training, who want to supplement/gain laparoscopic and robotic skills and experience as relates exclusively to upper urinary tract disease prior to a consultant appointment. There is, however, provision for dry and wet lab training for those with minimal current experience. The post holder will be involved directly and play an important role in the formal running of a regional Frimley Renal Cancer Centre at Frimley Park Hospital – a unit currently performing 300 renal cases per year: procedures including open, standard laparoscopic, Da Vinci robot assisted and Versius robot assisted approaches.
The surgical team is now made up of 5 surgeons; Mr NJ Barber (Director of Unit, FPH), Mr M Hussain (based at FPH),Mr H Sharma (based at FPH), Mr Malki (based at FPH) and Mr A Emara (based at FPH and HHT) providing 9 operating sessions per week (on average) – 5 to 10 cases. The appointee will work closely with these surgeons but also with the rest of the team, including two nurse specialists dedicated to renal cancer and the cancer office/mdt coordinators at FPH to provide a high quality regional service. The appointee will play an integral role in the co-ordination, communication and planning of the service and will have responsibility and expectations placed upon him/her relating to data collection, data submission and related academic endeavours through the unit. This includes involvement in both loco-regional, national and international trials and research.
THE POST: 12 month fixed term contract (including registrar level Urology on-call) in the first instance with possibility of extension.
This is a whole-time post with the post holder working a maximum of 48 hours per week including on-call.
The post holder will work under the supervision of Mr NJ Barber, Mr H Hussain, Mr M Malki, Mr S Sharma and Mr A Emara.
The post holder will be expected to provide prospective and cross cover for other members of the department.
