We have an exciting opportunity for a specialist B6 physiotherapist in critical care. This is a rotational post across:
North Bristol ICU
Bristol Royal Infirmary ICU– including ECMO service
North Bristol Acute Rotationsrelevant to ICU role (neurosciences, burns and plastics, vascular, stroke, burns and plastics)
- rotations are 9 months long. For every 4 rotations 2 are in NBT ICU, 1 in BRI ICU and 1 acute NBT ward rotation.

- Assessment and management of a varied and complex acute caseload.
- Support the clinical lead with the running of the team
- Delegate work to team members including therapy support workers
- As a senior member of staff this position will help with the day to day running of the unit and support other junior members of staff including students.
- Work closely with the multi-disciplinary team
- To participate in service improvement projects, to work towards the departmental objectives
- This position will also participate in weekend working and on call services.
The Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at Southmead Hospital in Bristol is a purpose build, 48-bed unit. We admit over 2,500 patients each year and are one of the busiest in the UK.
We are the regional specialise Intensive Care Unit for:
• Major Trauma
• Neurosciences (Neurosurgery and Neurology)
• Stroke Medicine (including Stroke Thrombectomy)
• Renal Medicine (including Renal Transplant)
• Vascular Surgery
• Urology
• Plastic Surgery and Burns
• Infectious Diseases (including airborne High Consequence Infectious Diseases)
We have highly specialised teams which means we sometimes admit patients who are hundreds of miles from home. This allows them to access the expertise we have in our hospital. We also provide General Intensive Care services for our local population. This serves over 500,000 people based in Bristol, North Somerset, and South Gloucestershire.
Our Intensive Care Unit provides outstanding care with excellent survival rates, and we have some of the best trauma outcomes in the country. We also have an active research programme and a strong focus on education.
• The successful candidate will:
• Hold a Degree/Diploma in Physiotherapy
• Be registered with the HCPC
• Have relevant healthcare experience
• Have a broad knowledge and experience in the field of physiotherapy
• Have experience of the respiratory management and rehabilitation of critical care patients
• Be able to prioritise and manage their own workload
• Have excellent communication skills
• Have the ability to work sensitively and effectively with patients and family members.
• Be able to work individually and/or as part of an MDT
• Be able to carry out moderate to intense physical effort throughout the working day.
• Have evidence of continuing professional development.
• Be flexible to adapt to the needs of the service.
