The Heart Failure team provides an in-reach service to patients with acute HF, with the aim of seeing all acute HF patients within 24hrs in keeping with the NICE Quality Standard on Acute HF. There is access to novel admission-avoidance strategies including home IV diuretics and day-case unit IV diuretics. The team has strong links with the Advanced Heart Failure service at Wythenshawe Hospital (also part of MFT), and cardiac transplant workup (inc. right heart catheterisation) is performed on site. There is a well-established link with the Specialist Palliative Care Team, with a dedicated pathway for HF patients requiring palliative care. There is a weekly dedicated HF MDT meeting. The HF service links closely with the Device service, with both HF Consultants being complex device implanters. The HF service has a very active portfolio of research studies.
The postholder would be expected to participate in Consultant-led subspecialty HF ward rounds and outpatient clinics and would be expected to present cases at the HF MDT meeting. There would be active involvement in running and further developing the novel outpatient diuretic services (home IV and day-case IV diuretics). There are excellent opportunities to be involved in HF research projects. As the service is expanding rapidly, there are opportunities for the post-holder to play an active role in service development.
The postholder will contribute to the recruitment of patients to existing studies and also depending upon the experience of the candidate, there may be opportunity to undertake independent research with supervision).
The postholder will participate in the 1:12 Cardiology Registrar on-call rota, which carries an out of hours supplement added to the basic salary.
