We are looking for an experienced Modern Matron to lead clinical and operational practice within our eight-bedded Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services Psychiatric Intensive Care Unit (CAMHS PICU). This senior leadership role is central to maintaining patient safety and delivering effective, evidence-based care for young people with complex mental health needs.

The role includes ensuring Care Quality Commission (CQC) essential standards are met and exceeded. Our inpatient services are currently rated ‘Good’ by the CQC, and we are seeking a Modern Matron who will help us progress towards ‘Outstanding’.

If you have the expertise and leadership skills to support safe, effective and compassionate care in our CAMHS PICU, we encourage you to apply.

Main duties of the job

  • Provide visible leadership to nursing staff, maintaining high clinical standards in line with CQC and QNIC expectations, and drive quality improvement initiatives across inpatient services.
  • Involve patients and carers in care planning, respond promptly to feedback or complaints, and ensure dignity, respect, and privacy are upheld in all aspects of care.
  • Manage safe staffing levels, support recruitment and retention, oversee rotas, and lead supervision, training, and professional development for nursing teams.
  • Maintain a safe and therapeutic environment through infection prevention, ligature risk management, and compliance with all relevant health and safety requirements.
  • Monitor and review clinical standards, lead on investigations, safeguard young people, and contribute to service planning, risk management, and emergency preparedness.
