Crynodeb
To accompany patients where clinical support is indicated. To chaperone patients as required. Taking and recording and monitoring of patient observations to include, blood pressure, pulse, oxygen saturations, temperature and respirations. This includes accurate calculation and recording of NEWS 2 (early warning score) and escalation to registered staff as indicated by score. Blood Glucose Monitoring. Undertake asymptomatic sexual health screening as directed by the CNS. To work within the phlebotomy service when required. To respond to patient requests for non-clinical information. To respond appropriately to clinical emergencies. To cover reception duties and book appointments as appropriate. To answer telephone calls, bleep etc. and take messages informing appropriate persons of the call or bleep received. To assist in the transferring of patients using correct manual handling techniques and equipment as appropriate. To attend to the activities of daily living needs of patients e.g. mobility, if required. To report immediately to the Nurse in Charge any observed change in a patients condition or any concern expressed by a patient about nursing care or medical treatment. Demonstrate knowledge of Health and Safety at work in order to maintain a safe environment. To maintain professional/personal development. Communication and relationships: The Healthcare Assistants relationship with both staff and patients should be discreet, bearing in mind that all information regarding patients must be kept confidential. Report to the nurse in charge of the ward/department matters of concern relating to patients and the ward/department environment. Answer the telephone, refer to appropriate person. Answer bleeps, taking accurate messages and relay to appropriate person. Attend ward/department meetings when appropriate. Be aware of the need to greet visitors to the ward/department and ascertain the purpose of their visit. Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of health and safety at work in order to maintain a safe environment. To ensure the privacy and dignity of patients at all times. Cleaning: Maintain tidiness and cleanliness of areas and equipment as instructed and complete all necessary paperwork relating to this in line with Trust Guidelines. Clerical duties: Undertake a range of clerical duties service, this may involve: o Reception/telephone duties. o Basic computer skills o Stock Control. o Preparing notes - using both electronic and manual systems. o Assist in the preparation of medical and nursing notes for clinics.
