About the Organisation

Our client is a remarkable charity providing expert veterinary care to people across the UK who would otherwise be unable to afford treatment for their pets. Their mission truly matters: they deliver compassionate, pragmatic care with a focus on positive clinical outcomes and measurable impact rather than rigid targets.

The Role

The charity is seeking a qualified Veterinary Surgeon to join its modern Middlesbrough Pet Hospital on a permanent, part-time basis (22.5 hours per week, worked as 7.5-hour days with a one-hour lunch).

The position offers a balanced mix of surgical and consulting duties and involves a varied caseload with a high number of emergency cases. There is no routine out-of-hours work, apart from a Saturday morning emergency clinic (8 a.m.–12 p.m.) that is shared equally among the current team of seven vets. No bank holiday cover is required.

This is an exciting opportunity for a vet who thrives on variety and is confident managing a wide range of cases. Excellent communication skills are essential, along with the ability to lead by example and share expertise with colleagues.

The successful candidate will:

• Provide high-quality, pragmatic veterinary care while promoting the charity’s mission.
• Confidently communicate with a diverse range of clients and colleagues.
• Champion client contributions and suggest resource efficiencies where possible.
• Adapt to a fast-paced environment while maintaining a healthy work–life balance.

Why Join?

The Middlesbrough hospital is well equipped with separate dog and cat kennels, in-house radiography, ultrasound, endoscopy, piped gases and extensive orthopaedic equipment. A supportive, multidisciplinary team offers a broad pool of clinical knowledge and experience. Flexible weekend rotas and enhanced pay with stand-down time during the week help maintain balance.

Benefits

Recognised as one of the UK’s Top 25 Big Organisations to Work For by the Best Companies survey, this charity is committed to creating a workplace where people feel connected, valued and able to make a real difference.

A comprehensive benefits package includes:

• Salary: £43,950 – £58,312 (including allowances) per annum (pro rata)
• Remote and flexible working options
• CPD allowance of one week and £1,000 per year
• Full RCVS fees paid
• Internal CPD programmes and discounts for BSAVA Congress and London Vet Show
• 25 days’ holiday (excluding Bank Holidays) with the option to buy or sell up to 5 days
• An additional Wellbeing Day for rest and recharge
• Generous pension schemes with contributions from 5% up to 10%
• Life Assurance (4 × annual salary)
• 24/7 Employee Assistance Programme and Online Wellbeing Centre
• Wide range of retail, holiday and lifestyle discounts
