The Opportunity - Graduate Speech & Language Teaching Assistant
This well-regarded specialist SEN school is looking for a motivated graduate to join their supportive therapy and SEND team. You’ll be working with pupils aged 4–16 who have a range of additional needs, including:
• Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC)
• Developmental Language Disorder (DLD)
• Learning difficulties
• Speech, Language and Communication Needs (SLCN)
You will work under the guidance of the school’s SaLT team and SENCO, supporting tailored interventions that help pupils develop communication skills, independence, and confidence.
Key Responsibilities - Graduate Speech & Language Teaching Assistant
• Support children 1:1 and in small groups to develop expressive and receptive language
• Implement SaLT strategies and tools (e.g., PECS, visual timetables, Makaton)
• Contribute to the monitoring of pupil progress and assist with EHCP targets
• Work collaboratively with teachers, therapists, and SEN support staff
• Help promote communication-rich learning environments and inclusive classroom practice
The Ideal Candidate - Graduate Speech & Language Teaching Assistant
• A recent graduate in Psychology, Linguistics, or Modern Foreign Languages (2:1 or above preferred)
• A strong communicator with a genuine interest in supporting children with SEN
• Previous experience working or volunteering with children with additional needs (desirable)
• Patient, empathetic, and resilient in approach
• Fully committed to a full-time role for the 2025–26 academic year
