We are looking for a Service Designer to join our community of tech experts in DWP Digital.

What skills, knowledge and experience will you need?

  • Ability to use user research, data, and hands-on service design approaches to solve complex problems and develop end-to-end services that meet departmental needs.
  • Skilled in communicating the value of user-centricity and design decisions to stakeholders at all levels.
  • Experienced in rapid idea generation and iteration, including sketching and prototyping, to explore and share design concepts effectively.
  • Committed to creating and maintaining a collaborative, positive working environment, regularly consulting with senior stakeholders and contributing to the wider service design community.

As a Service Designer at DWP Digital, you'll play a key role in shaping services that support over 22 million people across the UK. You'll work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams-spanning policy, product, delivery, and operations-to co-create user-centred, end-to-end services that are inclusive, resilient, and aligned with departmental goals.


You'll apply hands-on service design methods to solve complex problems, using research, storytelling, and visualisation to communicate service journeys and performance. Your work will help teams understand user needs, improve service outcomes, and foster a culture of continuous improvement and iteration.

Beyond project delivery, you'll contribute to a thriving design community by mentoring others, sharing best practices, and promoting the value of service design across the organisation. This is a role for someone who thrives on collaboration, values openness, and is passionate about making a real difference through thoughtful, evidence-based design.

Location: You'll join us in one of our brilliant digital hubs in Birmingham, Leeds or Manchester, whichever is most convenient for you.

Hybrid Working: We work a hybrid model - you'll spend some time working at home and some time collaborating face to face in a hub.

Pay: We offer competitive pay of up to £46,547

Pension: You'll get a brilliant civil service pension with employer contributions worth 28.97%, worth up to £12,876 per year.

Holidays: A generous leave package starting at 25 days rising to 30 days over time.

You can also take up to 3 extra days off a month on flexi-time. You'll also get all the usual public holidays.
