Support Worker
Children with Complex Needs and Challenging Behaviour
Purpose:
Provide person-centred care and support to children and young people with complex needs and challenging behaviour, promoting independence, wellbeing, and safety.
Key Responsibilities:
Deliver daily care (personal care, routines, medical needs).
Support children’s communication, social, and life skills.
Implement behaviour support plans and use de-escalation strategies.
Safeguard and promote welfare, following policies and procedures.
Keep accurate records (care notes, incidents, reports).
Work collaboratively with families, schools, and professionals.
Attend training and supervision to develop skills.
Essential Skills & Qualities:
Experience with children/young people with additional needs or behavioural challenges.
Patience, resilience, and ability to stay calm under pressure.
Good communication and teamwork skills.
Flexibility to work shifts, including evenings and weekends.
Desirable:
Relevant care qualification (e.g., NVQ Level 2/3).
Training in PBS/behaviour management.
Knowledge of communication aids (e.g., PECS, Makaton).
Full driving licence.
