Appointment of a Caretaker
(Full Time – 37.5 hours)
Salary Scale: SCP 11 (£28,142 per annum)

Join our team and help keep Royston’s community spaces safe, welcoming, and well-maintained.
Royston Town Council is looking for a proactive and reliable Caretaker to take pride in maintaining our buildings, facilities, and open spaces. This is a varied, hands-on role where no two days are the same, from preparing rooms for community events to carrying out repairs, ensuring safety, and keeping our public spaces looking their best.
What you’ll be doing
• Inspecting and maintaining the Town Hall, Market Hill Room, and other council facilities
• Setting up rooms and equipment for meetings, events, and markets
• Carrying out cleaning, grounds maintenance, and minor repairs
• Ensuring buildings are secure, safe, and ready for use
• Supporting community events and market days
• Responding to emergencies and making safe any hazards
What we’re looking for
• Experience in cleaning, facilities, or building maintenance
• Practical skills in general repairs, DIY, and groundskeeping
• Organised, reliable, and able to work independently
• Good communication skills and a customer-friendly approach
• Willingness to work flexibly, including some evenings and weekends
• Ability to undertake manual handling tasks
