To maintain a high standard of work and to strive for continual improvements in radiographic standards and patient care Undertake complex decisions by assessing patient records and referral information to inform clinical practice by selecting the correct imaging intervention from a range of possibilities to facilitate optimisation.Effectively communicate with other trust staff including support staff; professional colleagues; managers and consultant staff to ensure the appropriateness of imaging procedures in relation to the patients conditionTo provide specialist advice to junior staff /colleagues and act as a role model and to play an active role in maintaining and improving staff morale across all staff groupsDeputise for the Principal Radiographer when required. Effectively and fairly allocate tasks to members of the team in order to successfully manage the workload of the area in which they are working.To explain procedures to patients in order to facilitate their full understanding and cooperation throughout the examination.To develop a good working knowledge of the functionality of all appropriate equipment within the department and ensure that competency frameworks are completed for all imaging equipment and reviewed annually To follow the statutory Ionising Radiation Medical Exposure Regulation (IR(ME)R) procedures, and undertake the duties of an IR(ME)R Operator. These duties ensure that practical tasks that may influence patient radiation dose or image quality are carried out correctly according to the documented procedures To ensure that imaging requests are clear and appropriate as dictated by the Royal College of Radiologists guidelines and take appropriate action if they fail to meet the guidelines and provide guidance for more junior staff as required. To use computerised and manual methods of documentation to provide accurate imaging patient records and ensuring the requirements of the Data Protection Act are complied with when handling patient information To counsel and mentor staff to promote welfare and knowledge of roles To provide indirect supervision for band 5 radiographers and direct supervision for assistant practitioners and to assist in their personal development. To provide supervision and training of student radiographers, assistant practitioners and imaging assistants when required, including undertaking student assessments as required. To regularly access personal Trust email account as this is a common mechanism of communication across the Trust. To log a datix incident form when things go wrong or if there is a near miss event. Provide witness statements to support incident investigation. Ensure that any faults in equipment, fixtures, fitting or fabric are recorded and notified to the appropriate persons.Please see job description and personal specification for further details .
