Freebridge Community Housing is seeking a Retrofit & Sustainability Manager to lead our environmental strategy and drive progress toward net-zero.

This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who thrives on innovation, understands retrofit legislation, and wants to make a real impact across our property portfolio.

You’ll lead our decarbonisation plans, secure funding, and collaborate with stakeholders to deliver energy-efficient upgrades. From managing retrofit programmes and ensuring EPC/MEES compliance to using SAP tools for data-driven decisions, you’ll be central to our sustainability journey.

Working with internal teams, contractors, and residents, you’ll ensure retrofit works are future-proof, cost-effective, and customer-focused—bringing a methodical, organised approach from bid writing to project delivery.

Type and term of contract: Full time, Permanent – with hybrid working

About us

Our Freebridge Community Housing goal is to provide affordable, safe, and quality homes for current and future generations, for those who need a place to call home. Freebridge was set up in 2006, to receive the transfer of the Borough Council of King’s Lynn and West Norfolk’s housing stock. We now have over 7500 properties across west and north Norfolk, in addition to building new homes for social and affordable rent, and to support those who want to move into shared home ownership. We’ve had numerous achievements, including delivering our tenants' promises and bringing homes to the Decent Homes Standard, affording our customers a much better quality of living. At Freebridge, we live by our values: Belong, Own It, Think Customer, One Team One Purpose, and Be the Change.

What you’ll be doing:

Lead Freebridge’s decarbonisation strategy, driving energy efficiency upgrades across our property portfolio to meet EPC Band C by 2030 and achieve Net Zero Carbon.

Unlock funding and partnership opportunities, preparing compelling bids and managing grant compliance throughout retrofit programme delivery.

Oversee retrofit works from start to finish, ensuring long-term impact, regulatory compliance, and alignment with PAS 2035 and TrustMark standards.

Manage and analyse energy data, using SAP modelling tools to inform strategic decisions and track performance improvements.

Champion sustainability across the organisation, building networks, influencing best practice, and collaborating with residents to shape environmentally responsible services.

What we’re looking for:

To be successful with your application, you’ll need to show that you meet the following essential criteria:

You bring solid knowledge of retrofit legislation, sustainability frameworks, and energy efficiency standards. You have demonstrable expertise in statutory, regulatory, and best practice requirements, including PAS 2035:2023 and TrustMark compliance. You’re well-versed in current retrofit legislation and Government targets, and understand how to apply these in practice to deliver compliant, future-proof solutions.

You’re confident managing complex data, budgets, and contracts. You can interpret and manage technical detail, financial information, and contractual obligations with ease—and you know how to translate that complexity into plain English for colleagues, customers, and stakeholders.

You’ve successfully led retrofit or sustainability programmes. You’ve taken ownership of projects from inception to delivery, ideally within social housing or a related sector. You understand the funding landscape and have experience securing and managing grants or investment to support programme success.

You’re a proactive collaborator who builds strong relationships. You work effectively with residents, internal teams, external stakeholders, and service providers to co-create impactful, customer-focused solutions that meet both strategic and community needs.

What’s in it for you?
