All staff at GP Direct (part of Sphere PCN) are expected to follow the standards set out below. Equality, diversity and inclusion A positive approach to equality, diversity and inclusion (ED&I) creates an environment where every individual can reach their full potential. This is important for three reasons: it improves the effectiveness of our work, it is the right thing to do, and it is required by law. Patients and their families have the right to be treated fairly, involved in decisions about their care, and shown dignity and respect at all times. They must not be discriminated against on any grounds, including age, disability, gender reassignment, marriage and civil partnership, pregnancy and maternity, race, religion or belief, sex or sexual orientation. Patients also have a responsibility to treat other patients and our staff with dignity and respect. Staff have the right to be treated fairly in recruitment, training and career progression, and to work in an environment where diversity is valued and equality of opportunity is promoted. Staff will not face discrimination on any of the grounds listed above. Everyone is expected to treat patients and colleagues with dignity and respect. Safety, health, environment and fire (SHEF) GP Direct and Sphere PCN are committed to supporting and promoting staff health, wellbeing and safety. Each member of staff has a duty to take reasonable care of themselves, their team and others, and to cooperate with their employer to ensure compliance with health and safety requirements. All staff must comply with the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974, the Environmental Protection Act 1990, the Environment Act 1995, the Fire Precautions (Workplace) Regulations 1999, and all other relevant legislation. Confidentiality We are committed to providing an outstanding confidential service. Patients entrust us with sensitive information relating to their health and other aspects of their care, and they do so in confidence. They have the right to expect that staff will protect their privacy and maintain confidentiality at all times. Respecting confidentiality is essential to meeting legal requirements and maintaining patient trust. All staff must protect patient information and ensure confidentiality in all circumstances. Quality and continuous improvement (CI) To maintain and improve the quality of our services, all staff are required to consider not only what they do but how they do it. By reviewing and improving our processes, we strengthen the effectiveness of our work. Everyone in the practice and PCN shares responsibility for looking for ways to improve quality and for sharing good practice. GP Direct and Sphere PCN are committed to building a culture of continuous improvement where all staff are encouraged to make suggestions and contribute to better service delivery and patient care. Induction training All new staff must complete a practice induction programme, which is managed by the Business Manager. Learning and development Training and development are essential to ensure staff have the skills, knowledge, and attitudes needed to perform effectively. All staff are required to complete mandatory training as directed by the Training Coordinator, as well as to participate in practice and, where relevant, PCN training programmes. Staff may also, subject to approval, undertake external training courses to build their skills, support career progression, and help improve services and patient care. Collaborative working All staff must recognise the importance of working collaboratively. Teamwork is vital in a multidisciplinary environment, and effective communication is essential. Staff must communicate clearly and appropriately to ensure information is shared effectively. Service delivery All staff must follow practice and PCN policies and regional directives, ensuring that agreed protocols are observed at all times. Full details of policies and procedures are provided during induction. Professional conduct Staff are expected to maintain high professional standards, including dressing appropriately for their role. Administrative staff will be provided with a uniform, and clinical staff must dress in accordance with professional requirements for their role. Leave The annual leave entitlement is 7.6 weeks per year, pro rata, inclusive of public holidays.
