The MEED Liaison practitioner will be an experienced nurse or dietician with experience in assessment, diagnosis and therapeutic interventions used in the treatment of Eating Disorders.

In collaboration with eating disorder colleagues, they will provide support, expert clinical advice and teaching to colleagues within acute hospital settings, in relation to the management, care and treatment of patients of all ages with Eating Disorders in line with the MEED guidelines.

The MEED Liaison Practitioner will work both autonomously and in conjunction with the wider MDT in assessing, diagnosing, planning and implementing care; whilst maintaining associated healthcare records within the acute inpatient and eating disorder settings. They will have experience in managing nasogastric feeding and supporting the transition to an oral diet.

They will offer support and supervision to colleagues within the eating disorder service and provide specialist advice relevant to their clinical practice and expertise.They will provide clinical advice appropriate to their professional background andprovide profession specific advice to the wider team.

Alongside colleagues, they will continue the development and implementation of MEED pathways in acute hospital settings across the Central and North West London catchment area, therefore the post holder will have a flexible approach to working and be able to work with multiple teams.
• Work across acute hospital and community settings, developing effective working relationships with other services, teams, and partner organisations.
• Provide clinical expertise in the management, treatment, and care of patients of all ages with eating disorders, in line with MEED and NICE guidance.
• Build collaborative approaches with service users and carers, ensuring their involvement in formulation, care planning, risk management, and care delivery.
• Deliver comprehensive assessments, develop individualised care plans, and manage risk (including physical health risks) in partnership with colleagues.
• Develop, implement, and support MEED care pathways across the CNWL catchment area.
• Provide supervision to junior members of staff.
• Deliver and support training for colleagues based on MEED guidance and own specialist area of practice.
• Maintain accurate, detailed patient records across electronic patient record systems, ensuring practice is consistent with professional, legal, and ethical standards.
• Contribute to the development of protocols, outcome measures, and innovative approaches that support high-quality, evidence-based eating disorder care.
• Participate actively in multidisciplinary and inter-agency meetings, influencing and supporting best practice across services.
• Work flexibly across hospital sites.

The post-holder will be primarily based at Nightingale Place within the Eating Disorders Service. They will be required to work across a range of settings, including working across multiple acute hospital settings, satellite clinics at Roxborough Road (Harrow) and Stowe (near Paddington), and may also work from home where agreed with management.

In collaboration with colleagues within the Eating Disorders Service, the post-holder will provide support, specialist clinical advice, and teaching to staff in acute hospital settings. This will relate to the management, care, and treatment of patients of all ages with eating disorders, in line with MEED guidelines.
• The post holder will have the ability to work across settings and be able to develop effective working relationships with other services.
• They will be able to build collaborative approaches with service users, and carers ensuring their involvement in formulation, care planning and care delivery.
• Develop and maintain networks and partnership working with peers in the eating disorder service and partners in other organisations to develop and support good practice and maintain professional nursing / dietetic standards.
• Act as a clinical expert in the management, treatment and care of patients with eating disorders in providing advice and direction to clinical and professional colleagues in line with MEED guidance.
• To provide supervision for identified junior members of the team.
• To be involved in relevant multidisciplinary and inter-agency clinical meetings and professional meetings.
• To maintain detailed and accurate records across the various electronic patient record systems used in each clinical area.
• Take responsibility for creating and maintaining an environment that positively encourages the active involvement of staff, service users and carers in all aspects of care delivery and evaluation.
Knowledge, Training & Experience

Hold specialised knowledge demonstrated through:
• Registered Nurse - RMN/RGN.
• Registered Dietitian.
• Evidence of post qualification development gained through experience in eating disorders and in-patient or similar settings.
• Mentorship or Teaching experience.
• Demonstrate a clear understanding of key practice development needs in relation to healthcare for people with eating disorders.

Experience which supports good level of practice including:
• Experience of utilising effective leadership skills.
• Experience of teaching and presentation skills.
• Evidence of involvement in practice development and innovation in an area relevant to Mental Health Practice.
• Experience of assessing and proactively managing risk of patients with an eating disorder.
• Specialist post registration experience of working with people with complex and serious health issues secondary to their eating disorder, which may include Mental Illness, Physical Health or Challenging Behaviour.
• Experience of supervising other staff.
• Experience of working across professional and organisational boundaries.
