Key Responsibilities:
Client Consultation:
Discuss fabric choices, styles, and requirements with clients to create bespoke or custom garments.
Measurement & Pattern Making:
Take accurate body measurements, prepare or adapt existing patterns, and select appropriate materials for the chosen garment style.
Fabric Preparation & Cutting:
Examine fabrics for flaws, arrange patterns on the fabric according to grain and design, and cut out garment parts with precision.
Garment Construction:
Pin, tack, and fit garments on customers or dress forms, making necessary alterations to achieve a perfect fit.
Sewing & Stitching:
Sew garment parts together using both hand and machine techniques, including sewing on fasteners and trimmings like buttons and zippers.
Finishing:
Shape and finish garments by pressing seams, pleats, and adding padding or other shaping materials, and ensure the final product is of high quality.
Alterations & Repairs:
Perform alterations on finished garments or make repairs, such as shortening hems, taking in seams, or mending rips.
Quality Control:
Ensure that all finished garments meet the customer's requirements and the high standards of the workshop or manufacturer.
Required Skills:
Technical Sewing Skills: Proficiency in various sewing machines and hand-stitching techniques.
Precision & Accuracy: A strong attention to detail, especially in measuring, cutting, and fitting garments.
Pattern Knowledge: The ability to select, modify, and use commercial patterns or create custom patterns.
Fabric Knowledge: An understanding of different fabrics, their properties, and how they work with various designs and techniques.
Creativity & Style: A good eye for fashion, design, and style to interpret and execute client requests.
Communication: Ability to effectively discuss requirements and expectations with clients.
