The following are the core responsibilities of the Salaried GP. There may be, on occasion, a requirement to carry out other tasks; this will be dependent upon factors such as workload and staffing levels: a. The delivery of highly effective medical care to the entitled population b. The provision of services commensurate with the GMS contract c. Generic prescribing adhering to local and national guidance d. Monitor and ensure the safe storage, rotation and disposal of medicines e. Implement and evaluate individual specialised treatment plans for chronic disease patients f. Demonstrate effective communication skills, supporting people in making decisions, planning care or seeking to make a positive change g. Identify, manage and support patients at risk of developing long-term conditions, preventing adverse effects to the patients health h. Maintain accurate clinical records in conjunction with extant legislation and to ensure SNOMED CT codes are used effectively i. Develop and implement robust governance systems and contribute to practice targets (QOF, Enhanced services etc.), complying with local and regional guidance j. Actively engage in peer review to inform own and others practice, formulating and implementing strategies to act on learning and make improvements k. Support the team in dealing with clinical emergencies l. Support the team with all safeguarding matters in accordance with local and national policies m. Understand practice and local policies for substance abuse and addictive behaviour, referring patients appropriately n. Deliver opportunistic health promotion where appropriate o. Actively seek feedback and involvement from individuals, families, carers, communities and colleagues in the co-production of service improvements p. Processing of administration in a timely manner, including referrals, repeat prescription requests and other associated administrative tasks q. On a rotational basis, undertake duty doctor role r. Maintain accurate clinical records in conjunction with good practice, policy and guidance s. Work collaboratively, accepting an equal share of the practice workload t. Adhere to best practice recommended through clinical guidelines and the audit process u. Accept delegated responsibility for a specific area (or areas) v. Attend and contribute effectively to practice meetings as required w. Contribute effective to the development and maintenance of the practice including clinical governance and training x. Ensure compliance with the appraisal process y. Prepare and complete the revalidation process z. Commit to self-learning and instil an ethos of continuing professional development across the practice team aa. Support the training of GP registrars, medical students from all clinical disciplines bb. Support the partners in achieving the strategic aims of the practice, making recommendations to enhance income and reduce expenditure cc. Review and always adhere to practice protocols and policies dd. Encourage collaborative working, liaising with all staff regularly, always promoting a culture of continuous improvement In addition to the primary responsibilities, the salaried GP may be requested to: a. Participate in practice audits as requested by the audit lead b. Participate in local initiatives to enhance service delivery and patient care c. Participate in the review of significant and near-miss events applying a structured approach i.e., root cause analysis (RCA) d. Liaise with clinical rota manager and maintain an effective clinical staff rota ensuring all clinics are staffed appropriately. Working flexibly to provide cover during annual leave and sickness. e. Participate in local initiatives to enhance service delivery and patient care f. Support and participate in shared learning within the organisation g. Continually review clinical practices, responding to national policies and initiatives where appropriate h. Participate in the review of significant and near-miss events applying a structured approach i.e., root cause analysis (RCA) i. Commensurate with their role, support the development of clinical services within the organisation, liaising with external agencies and professional organisations as required
