Summary

We are on the lookout for an enthusiastic and highly skilled Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) to join our Neurology team at Imperial College Healthcare Trust. This role focuses on providing expert care and support to patients with epilepsy, offering a remarkable opportunity to contribute to a holistic and patient-centred epilepsy care service.

As a Clinical Nurse Specialist in Epilepsy, your primary responsibilities will include leading the delivery and coordination of specialised nursing care for epilepsy patients. You will manage a caseload of patients, encompassing assessment, diagnosis, and treatment planning, and provide expert advice and education to patients, carers, and healthcare professionals across various care settings, including primary, secondary, and social care.

Additionally, you will run nurse-led clinics and play a significant role in service development, audit, and education initiatives.

The ideal candidate will possess advanced clinical assessment skills and be capable of working autonomously. A compassionate and patient-focused approach, combined with excellent communication and leadership skills, is essential. The role also requires a willingness to travel across sites and collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams.

If you are passionate about making a difference in epilepsy care and meet the qualifications outlined above, we would love to hear from you.

The CNS leads the region's specialist epilepsy services, accepting referrals from a broad spectrum of professionals including GPs, neurologists, oncologists, and obstetricians. They perform advanced assessments, diagnose epilepsy, and initiate comprehensive treatment plans. The role involves continually reviewing and managing patients, encompassing drug therapy and emergency care planning. They run nurse-led outpatient clinics three times a week, which include one new patient clinic and two follow-up sessions. High standards of clinical documentation are maintained, and participation in research and audits is an integral part of the role.

Education & Training
As a Trust-wide specialist advisor on epilepsy, the CNS spearheads educational initiatives for medical, nursing, therapy staff, and external agencies. They provide critical education to patients and carers on epilepsy management, legal implications, and necessary lifestyle adaptations. Additionally, they actively participate in study days and contribute to both national and international epilepsy education efforts.

Communication & Collaboration
Effective communication of complex and sensitive information to patients, carers, and professionals is crucial. The CNS collaborates with multidisciplinary teams and external agencies to ensure holistic care, fostering robust connections with epilepsy associations and community resources.
