For informal enquiries, please contact Nigel Burroughs (Professor) at n.j.burroughs@warwick.ac.uk

Applications are invited for a postdoctoral research fellow to work on the statistical data analysis of cell division in humans and human egg development. You will join an interdisciplinary team and work on a variety of ongoing data analysis projects. Datasets are of two types – DNA sequencing data and tracked chromosome 3D movement data. The project will involve Bayesian inference methods, specifically fitting models to data (typically in STAN).

The ideal candidate will have a PhD in a relevant subject such as statistics, mathematics, physics, operations research, computer science or data science, and have a strong statistics background. Candidates with either Bayesian or traditional statistical backgrounds are encouraged to apply. Candidates should be able to programme in a high-level language for data analysis such as R, STAN or MatLab, whilst having experience with implementing Bayesian algorithms will be an advantage. A background in biology is NOT required.

The post is for up to 6 months, to 31st March 2026. Additional funding is pending. The post will be ideal for PhD students awaiting their viva.

If you have not yet been awarded your PhD but are near submission or have recently submitted your PhD, any offers of employment will be made as Research Assistant on Level 5 of the University grade structure (£34,610). Upon award of your PhD and evidence of this fact, you will be promoted to Research Fellow on the first point of the Level 6 of the University grade structure (starts at £35,608).

For details on the experience and skills required, please refer to the job description attached as a PDF below.
