Post: Head of Year (Teaching Post)

Responsible to: Assistant Headteacher Pastoral/Behaviour Salary :MPS/UPS + TLR 1a (£9,782)

Working Hours: Full-time (10/25 lessons taught plus one 35-minute assembly per week)

About the Role

We are seeking a passionate and resilient Head of Year to lead a year group and contribute to the wider pastoral and academic success of Aldridge School. This is a rewarding leadership opportunity for a qualified teacher who is committed to student welfare, discipline, and achievement.

The successful candidate will take ownership of their year group, leading a team of form tutors and associate staff, and will also contribute to whole-school initiatives such as rewards, student leadership, anti-bullying, primary liaison, and extra-curricular activities.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the organisation, welfare, and discipline of a year group.
• Promote outstanding attendance and punctuality (target: 96%+).
• Monitor academic progress and implement interventions for key student groups.
• Coordinate and support form tutors and assemblies.
• Maintain high visibility and discipline across the school during key times.
• Liaise with parents/carers and external agencies to support student wellbeing.
• Lead reintegration meetings and behaviour interventions.
• Maintain accurate pastoral records and oversee behaviour data via Class Charts.
• Contribute to whole-school responsibilities such as student leadership and transition.


Desirable Qualifications and Skills

• Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and degree-level education.
• Proven success in secondary teaching and pastoral leadership.
• Strong organisational and communication skills.
• Ability to analyse student data and implement targeted interventions.
• Empathy, resilience, and a commitment to safeguarding.
• Experience working with SEN, PP, LAC, and other key student groups.
• Effective behaviour management and strategic thinking in classroom practice.
