Teaching Assistant - Secondary Alternative Provision
Location: Chesterfield, Derbyshire (S41)
Pay: £90 - £105 per day
Hours: Full time | Mon-Thurs 8:30am - 4:20pm | Fri 8:30am - 3:50pm | Term time only
Start Date: ASAP
Contract: Long-term to permanent
Important: Due to the location and role requirements, a driving licence and access to a vehicle is highly desirable
About the Role
We're working with a secondary Alternative Provision in Chesterfield (S41), that supports young people aged 11-16 that have been excluded from or are unable to access mainstream education. The provision is rated 'Good' by Ofsted and features small class sizes, high staff-to-student ratios and a therapeutic environment rooted in re-engaging students and promoting resilience and personal development.
What You'll Do
- Provide structured 1:1 and small-group academic and emotional support
- Encourage positive behaviour and emotional regulation through trauma-informed strategies
- Build trust and rapport with students to support engagement and personal growth
- Support reintegration pathways, guiding motivated students back into mainstream education
- Collaborate with teachers, therapists and SEN teams to deliver tailored learning plans
- Track progress and contribute to regular pupil reviews and feedback sessions
What We're Looking For
- Experience working with young people with SEMH or behavioural needs
- A calm, patient and resilient approach in high-need environments
- Strong communication, empathy and the ability to build trusting relationships
- Enhanced DBS (or willingness to apply)
