Hays Education is working with a specialist autism provision in Huddersfield, and is seeking a compassionate and skilled Autism-Trained Teaching Assistant to join their dedicated team through Hays Education. This long-term placement offers a rewarding opportunity to support pupils with complex needs in a nurturing and inclusive environment.
About the RoleYou'll work closely with teachers and support staff to deliver tailored educational and emotional support to children across the autism spectrum. Your role will be vital in helping pupils access learning, build confidence, and thrive both academically and socially.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide one-to-one and small group support for pupils with autism
- Implement autism-specific strategies (e.g., PECS, TEACCH, sensory integration)
- Assist with classroom activities and behaviour management
- Support pupils with communication, emotional regulation, and transitions
- Collaborate with teachers, therapists, and families to ensure holistic care
✅ Requirements
- Experience working with children with autism in an educational setting
- Relevant training in autism support (formal qualifications or CPD)
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Patience, empathy, and a proactive attitude
- Enhanced DBS (or willingness to obtain one)
