Background

Our Security Team is an integral part of the larger Estates and Facilities Department. They are responsible for supporting and delivering all aspects of security related services throughout Canterbury and the wider Campus Network. The Security team aims to offer and deliver a value-added, flexible and professional service to meet the needs and expectations of students, staff and guests.

We are currently looking to recruit a Security Officer for our Day shift. The successful candidate will have experience in security or a related customer service-based area and will understand that the experience of our students, staff and guests are at the forefront of all that we do. Experience in the use of and monitoring access control/CCTV systems/fire alarm systems would also be an advantage, as would a current SIA DS license .

Applicants will be able to demonstrate their customer focused skills, combined with effective written and verbal communication skills. They must be able to maintain the highest personal professional standards representing the front facing service of the University and to demonstrate the ability to deal with difficult and occasional stressful circumstances, to provide a safe, secure and inviting environment for all students, staff and guests of the University. The ability to assess situations and respond efficiently, coherently and effectively is an essential requirement for this role. Candidates will be motivated, target driven and keen to learn and develop new or existing professional skills.

How will I work?

A shift pattern of 4 days on / 4 days off is worked within these posts.

Day Shift – 06:00- 18.00 on a four-on-four off shift pattern.

You will not be required to work a mixture of days and nights. Start and finish times may vary to maintain the overall flexibility required of the University security staff.

Applicants should live within a reasonable distance of the site to ensure safe travel home after night shifts.

Occasional travel to other sites may be required, therefore you will be required to be able to drive to all locations and have a clean driving licence (Manual).
