An exciting new opportunity has arisen to join the Paediatric Respiratory and Sleep Physiology team at Bristol Royal Hospital for Children. We are seeking to recruit a motivated and enthusiastic band 5 Paediatric Respiratory and Sleep Physiologist, working 36 hours per week (0.96 WTE). You will join a busy, friendly multidisciplinary team.

The post holder will deliver the provision of respiratory physiology testing within the Children’s Hospital alongside the Lead Physiologists and Associate Physiologists, as well as providing a high quality sleep study service.

It is essential that the successful applicant has had previous experience in lung function testing, preferably with sleep physiology experience. It is essential to have a good science background with a BSc in Healthcare Science or equivalent.

Paediatric respiratory medicine at the Children’s Hospital provides a tertiary service for children across the South West, including those with cystic fibrosis, asthma, neuromuscular disease, and patients on long term ventilation.

We are looking for individuals with energy and enthusiasm who are committed to providing a high quality service. Previous experience in respiratory physiology investigations are essential, as is a desire to continue with personal development. You must be highly motivated, with an ability to work autonomously and as part of a team. You will have effective communication, organisational and interpersonal skills, and have excellent attention to detail.

The post holder will be responsible for supporting an efficient and high quality service in the field of Paediatric Respiratory Physiology and Sleep Medicine, and for providing the very best care for patients during their inpatient stay or outpatient visit. They will be responsible for:
• Supporting the provision of the Paediatric Respiratory and Sleep Physiology service for University Hospitals Bristol and Weston NHS Foundation Trust.
• Undertaking a range of lung function investigations on inpatients and outpatients (spirometry, FeNO, nasal NO and bronchodilator response assessments), gaining accurate and clinically valuable measurements.
• Facilitating the provision of sleep study investigations for inpatients and home sleep studies (overnight oximetry, overnight carbon dioxide monitoring and respiratory polygraphy), ensuring high quality data is captured.
• Performing analysis and reporting of sleep studies, following departmental and international standards.
• Maintaining equipment to ensure that it is functioning to agreed standards and specifications.
• Training and supporting junior staff, and participating in teaching and research activities within the department.
