Key Responsibilities & Accountabilities
● Adhere to policies and procedures outlined in the Pool Safety Operating Procedures (PSOP).
● Provide clear safety instructions to all pool users throughout their visit.
● Maintain the highest level of duty of care and ensure safe practices are followed by students in your charge.
● Establish an effective teacher-student relationship to promote engagement and learning.
● To deliver the highest possible quality of swimming instruction to enhance the Learn to Swim Programme.
● Implement the Centre’s Learn to Swim Programme efficiently.
● Assess individual and / or group performance throughout lessons and provide constructive feedback.
● Accurately record relevant student progress and lesson information as required by the Swim School Coordinator.
● Develop and maintain a strong working relationship with the Swim School Coordinator, management team, school teachers, and
operational staff to support a positive and professional environment.
● Use provided equipment in accordance with training, with particular regard towards health and safety regulations.
● Ensure the correct usage and storage of swimming equipment.
● The postholder is required to actively follow and comply with all Brentwood School Sports Centre policies and procedures,
including essential aspects of Safeguarding, Equal Opportunities, emergency procedures and health & safety protocols.
● Maintain open communication and cooperation with the Management Team.
Personal Specification
Experience
● The ideal candidate will be able to plan and deliver engaging lessons tailored to various skill levels while demonstrating patience,
enthusiasm, and the ability to motivate students to reach their swimming goals.
● The teacher must be able to adapt lessons for individual needs and correct swimming techniques for front crawl, back crawl, and
breaststroke.
● As a Swimming Teacher at Brentwood School Sports Centre, you must have a thorough understanding of the Centre’s operational
procedures, including the Emergency Action Plan.
● Ensuring the highest level of duty of care and maintaining safe practices and a safe learning environment for the pupils within your
charge is a key responsibility of this role. Further opportunities exist for additional course tuition and one-to-one lesson
instruction, subject to performance within the role.
Skills and Attributes
● A Level 2 Swimming Teacher qualification will be essential to this role, whilst either a First Aid at Work qualification, National Pool
Lifeguard Qualification or National Rescue Award for Swimming Teachers and Coaches and other relevant professional CPD’s
would be an advantage.
● Most important are boundless enthusiasm, energy and motivation, a flexible approach to work and a single-minded belief in the
highest standards of customer care.
● Have had Practical Experience in coaching/teaching all levels of the ASA Criteria
